I am an NHS dentist working in the north west of England …and I am vegan. Unfortunately the dental practice where I work is not exclusively vegan, but I hope to open my own practice one day which will be vegan.
I am making this website to act as a resource providing reliable information enabling vegans to maintain their oral health. I make no profit from this website, seek no fame or advertisement, and I have no conflicts of interest to declare …beyond being vegan – but, to quote Dr Garth Davis:
I am not ‘biased’ because I am vegan. I am vegan because after extensive research I have learned that, besides being the most ethical decision, a plant-based diet is the best for my health and the health of the environment.
Dr. Garth Davis, MD
Why Vegan?
Respect Yourself
As a healthcare professional I base the decisions I make in providing healthcare to my patients on scientific research and evidence. I take the same approach in my own health decisions, using evidence where possible. The evidence for the health benefits of a plant based diet is now convincing. The evidence empowers me to choose to reduce my risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, hip fracture, cancer and premature death.
Respect Others
As a human, I have moral compass which tells me I should minimise the harm I cause to others – both humans and other animals.
Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Respect the Environment
…there is no Planet B
We are at a unique stage in our history. Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet, and never before have we had the power to do something about that. Surely we all have a responsibility to care for our Blue Planet. The future of humanity and indeed, all life on earth, now depends on us.
Sir David Attenborough
